After installing Fireshot 0.78 on an IE 8.0 on Windows Vista Home Premium SP2, German, I get after the selection of "Capture entire Page and..." / "Copy to Clipboard..." (and probably with other commands, I tested only this one) nine times the error message

Couldn't create settings file: C:\Program Files\Fireshot for IE\fs_ie_settings.ini
Please check your permission.

On the same computer I don't get any message with Fireshot on Firefox 3.5.2. On Firefox all is OK.

There is a dependency between Fireshot on Firefox and Fireshot on IE. After I created a Screenshot with Fireshot on Firefox I get the described error message only two times on IE. After all subsequent screenshots on IE this message comes only two times.

According to postings of 1 June this problem is fixed. But I get these messages nevertheless now on my system. "Check for update..." confirms that I have the latest version.

I also installed FireShot 0.78 for IE 8 on Windows Home Premium 32 SP2, english, and I don't get the same settings setup as I do in my Firefox 3.5.3,
so captures don't save in the Internet Explorer version. Does anyone have FireShot working in IE 8?

I get the same error using IE8 and Windows 7. After multiple irritating popup messages, Fireshot finally takes the image/photo but there are many more popups to follow.

Does anyone have a solution to this issue?

The solution is located in the error message:

Couldn't create settings file: C:\Program Files\Fireshot for IE\fs_ie_settings.ini
Please check your permission

Open this directory and try creating this file manually. If you can't, then modify your permissions to be able creating and modifying this file.

If you right click on internet explorer and select "Run as adminsitrator" then you don't have this problem.   However, it isn't the safest thing in the world to be running Internet Explorer with administrator rights.

Now, back to the original thread....

I can create files in C:\Program Files\FireShot for IE
I can rename the existing fs_ie_settings.ini
I can delete it and other files I create in the directory.
Yet I continue to get the error and can't capture the page I request to capture.

The permissions on the directory are:
Authenticated Users: Full Control - Allow
    System: Full Control - Allow
    Administrators: Full Control - Allow
    Users: Full Control - Allow
There are no other groups or users to set permissions for.

Those are also the permissions on fs_ie_settings.ini

I can open IE8 as an administrator and make changes without generating this error.
I cannot continue to run IE8 as the administrator to make this work.

So instead of telling us "it's the permissions" please tell us which permissions are preventing FireShot from being able to edit the file.

With that said, when I turn protected mode off I don't get the error.
So perhaps the error is somewhere else.
May I suggest that you go into Internet Options, Security tab, and click on the "Reset all zones to default level" button. Quit IE. Start IE. From the Fireshot menu, select Editor preferences... and see what happens.

I too am running the Firefox version at the same time. I'm not sure if there's a DLL conflict.
